U.S. tells Russia to piss off in supplying Syria with arms
...even though we have been supplying the Syrian rebels and militants to the teeth with brand spanking new weaponry but will throw a fit if Russian supplies 'defensive' weapons to Syria
US officials this Thursday called for Russia not to conduct arm sales to Syria as news reports surfaced that Moscow was ready to sell advanced ground-to-air missiles - the S-300 system to Syria.
Israel informed the U.S. about the sale of the missile batteries, claiming Syria has been making payments on a 2010 agreement with Moscow to buy six launchers and 144 operational missiles for $900 million according to the information the Israeli`s provided.
Commenting on the media reports, US Secretary of State John Kerry said earlier in the day that “the missiles are potentially destabilizing with respect to the state of Israel.”
Again, the key word said by Kerry - "...state of Israel," its always about Israel and nothing else it seems in the world.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said that “the provision of additional weapons to the regime will not hasten a political solution,...including air defense systems that are destabilizing to the region.”
Well here he said 'region' while another said 'Israel' but do get the picture in the end though.
Of course Israel and the U.S. doesn`t want Syria to get the powerful S-300 missile system as it is a 'game changer,' meaning effectively Syria would be 'hands off.' They successfully lobbied Russia when they persuaded Moscow as to not fulfill a contract with Iran about the similar S-300 missile system - in the event Israel and the U.S. launched airstrikes to maintain air superiority.
Now the sale of Russian weapons to Syria has always been a source of bilateral tension between Moscow and Washington, with US officials accusing Russia of arming a regime the United States says is killing its own citizens in Syria’s raging civil war.
But who is killing who? What is the real status quo in Syria? The Syrian rebels and militants are on record of being Al-Qaeda affiliated and media reports confirmed today that the rebels are defecting to the Islamist group Jabhat al-Nusra. Jabhat al-Nusra is a known Al-Qaeda group and designated as a terrorist organisation by our State Dept. It is the same rebels as evidenced by the UN who used deadly chemicals weapons...but of course the great superpowers of the world don`t care and brush off the news as 'false' and 'skeptical.'
Russia, however, has insisted that the deliveries are legal under international law and that it is not supplying Syria, [...] with offensive weapons which can be used to kill civilians.
As the world powers play around, innocent civilians are caught in the cross hairs so to speak and pay the ultimate price. They want to turn Syria into Libya...how the 'presstitute' media has forgotten Libya? Do they even KNOW or CARE what the current situation is on the ground there? Of course not, their job is done and have their sights on Syria and Iran. We all know the rebels and militants are completely equipped and financed from abroad who are Al-Qaeda affiliated and at the direction of the West,... yet they spin it in such a way that we are made to believe its a 'populous uprising' against a tyrant. Oh how we miscalculate and mistreat history, we never do indeed learn from history...until its too late.

Israel gets away with another war crime...what mockery of human rights and international law

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) said on Sunday that they were informed of this decision. 'The group stated that the Israeli verdict proved its inquiry was a “smokescreen” to provide “systematic cover for widespread violations of international law.' The PCHR called Israel's decision “a mockery of victims’ rights and international law” and rightfully so.
The IDF Military Advocate General's (MAG) Corps who issued the decision stated, after examining the claims of alleged violations by the Israeli military during the November offensive on Gaza “...that there was no basis to open a criminal investigation or to take any additional measures,” the report published on the IDF website reads.
And of course the blame game and flip-flopping on the facts ensued, with Israel’s chief military spokesperson Yoav Mordechai claiming it was the home of a 'known head Hamas rocket unit' as cited by Reuters and only days later saying a member of al-Dalou family was target of the raid. Army spokeswoman Avital Leibovich told AFP on November 27 the father of al-Dalou family was 'affiliated with Hamas` military wing,' "there was no mistake from the IDF."
Then, Leibovich later denied she had identified Muhammad al-Dalou as the target, surprise...surprise. “What I said is that the targets we picked were not innocent civilians,” she told Maan News Agency, refusing to comment on WHO exactly was targeted and whether the person was killed or not.
What deception and utter disregard of human life. And they have the gall to call it 'collateral damage' in the report? Seems like collateral damage is as routine as anything now
“We are calling on the Palestinian leadership to sign and ratify the Rome Statute, become a member of the ICC and ask the prosecutor to open an investigation into Israeli violations of international Human Rights and Humanitarian Law,” the rights advocate concluded.
Just so if you all have forgotten, in November 2012, the eight-day Israeli offensive in Gaza killed about 170 Palestinians, including many women and children, and injured over 1,400 others that is WELL DOCUMENTED by world press organizations unlike our mainstream media here in the US.
The only thing at hand now of any use is for the Palestinian leadership to sign and ratify the Rome Statute, becoming a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and asking the prosecutor to open an investigation into Israeli violations of international human rights and humanitarian law that have gone unabated forever now. However, the issue at hand now is if the impotent lame duck Palestinian Authority (PA) headed by Mahmoud Abbass doesn`t refer this to UN ICC and other UN agencies, then he should resign and just give the Palestinian people their dignity and respect they finally deserve.
On the flip side, there is politics with the ICC in the Hague as we saw with Muammar Gaddafi and his 'alleged war crimes' against his people...thats for another time guys to comment on.

The Israeli Military’s legal arm has decided not to open a criminal probe into the deaths of 10 members of the Palestinian al-Dalou family killed in the IDF’s air-strike on their home during the Gaza war last year.
The airstrike on the al-Dalou home “does not raise suspicion of the commission of a criminal offense and that the unfortunate result occurred despite the efforts made to minimize the collateral damage to uninvolved civilians,” the IDF Military Advocate General's (MAG) Corps stated, after examining the claims of alleged violations by the Israeli military during the November offensive on Gaza.
“The MAG decided that there was no basis to open a criminal investigation or to take any additional measures,” the report published on the IDF website reads.
On November 18, during the eight-day deadly confrontation between Israel and Hamas militants, an Israeli warplane bombed the home of the al-Dalou family in Al-Nasser neighborhood, central Gaza City.
The attack turned the three-storey home into rubble, killing ten members of the household, including five women and four children. Two more civilians from the family living next door were also killed in the attack.
Shortly after the strike, Israel’s chief military spokesperson Yoav Mordechai said that the intended target was the home of Yahia Rabia - reportedly the head of Hamas' rocket unit. “Although I don't know the outcome, there were civilians harmed by this,” Mordechai said, as cited by Reuters.
However, several days later, the Israeli military stated that one of the Al-Dalou family – 29-year-old Gaza police officer Mohamed Jamal – was the target of the raid.
“The father was a known terror operative affiliated with the military wing of Hamas," army spokeswoman Avital Leibovich told AFP on November 27. “There was no mistake from the IDF. It's tragic when a terror operative is hiding among civilians but unfortunately it is part of Hamas and Islamic Jihad tactics.”
Adding even more controversy to the story, Leibovich later denied she had identified Muhammad al-Dalou as the target.
“What I said is that the targets we picked were not innocent civilians,” she told Maan News Agency, refusing to comment on who exactly was targeted and whether the person was killed.
The controversial raid attracted wide media attention and sparked criticism from rights organizations.
Human Rights Watch labeled the air strike as “a clear violation of the laws of war” adding that Israel provided no information to support the claim that Mohamed Al-Dalou was directly participating in hostilities. The organization urged Israel to investigate “disproportionate attacks.”
United Nations Human Rights Council also said in its annual report that Israel actions were not in line with the law.
“Even if one member of the Al-Dalou family was affiliated with an armed group, and therefore potentially a legitimate military target, an attack under the given circumstances with the large number of civilians present, would not meet the requirement of proportionality, i.e., the anticipated concrete and direct military gain from the attack would not outweigh the anticipated civilian loss,” the document says.
Israel’s MAG though justifies the IDF action, saying “the attack against the terrorists, who constituted a military target, was aimed to reduce the scope of missile and rocket launchings towards Israel.”
“The Commission found that various precautions had been taken in order to reduce the possibility of collateral damage to uninvolved civilians in the course of the attack, including the choice of ammunition used, and that the operations staff had not foreseen that as a result of the attack, collateral damage would be caused to uninvolved civilians to the extent alleged,” it stated.
The MAG’s report on the findings of its examination does not provide names of the people targeted during the deadly Gaza incident in November.
Israeli legal system provides only ‘illusion of justice’
The Al-Dalou family case is not the only one that has been dismissed by Israeli military investigators, Gisela Schmidt Martin Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) told RT.
Since January, 14 civil cases which the PCHR had submitted on behalf the victims of the 2008-2009 armed conflict in the Gaza Strip have also been dismissed, she said.
“We are facing an ongoing impunity” for both the November 2012 offensive and for the three-week Gaza war, known as operation Cast Lead in Israel, four years ago, the expert pointed out.
“There have been a number of changes to the Israeli legal system, which have made it practically impossible for Palestinian victims to achieve any form of justice,” she stated.
In July last year, the Israeli government approved amendments to the Torts Law, which “basically exempts the State of Israel from any liability arising from any damage caused during a combat action,” Gisela Schmidt said. The definition of such a military operation in Israeli law “is extremely broad and open to a wide interpretation,” she pointed out. “It can even be the case when a soldier claims that he was in fear for his life.”
The PCHR called Israel's decision “a mockery of victims’ rights and international law.” The only way to achieve justice for Palestinian victims in the situation when “the Israeli legal system is providing an illusion of justice” is to go to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, the organization believes.
“We are calling on the Palestinian leadership to sign and ratify the Rome Statute, become a member of the ICC and ask the prosecutor to open an investigation into Israeli violations of international Human Rights and Humanitarian Law,” the rights advocate concluded.

As tensions are building up for an unthinkable war with Iran, it is worth exploring Iran’s banking system compared to its U.S., British and Israeli counterparts.
Some researchers are pointing out that Iran is one of only three countries left in the world whose central bank is not under Rothschild control. Before 9-11 there were reportedly seven: Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, Libya, Cuba, North Korea and Iran. By 2003, however, Afghanistan and Iraq were swallowed up by the Rothschild octopus, and by 2011 Sudan and Libya were also gone. In Libya, a Rothschild bank was established in Benghazi while the country was still at war.
Islam forbids the charging of interest, a major problem for the Rothschild banking system. Until a few hundred years ago, charging interest was also forbidden in the Christian world and was even punishable by death. It was considered exploitation and enslavement.
Since the Rothschilds took over the Bank of England around 1815, they have been expanding their banking control over all the countries of the world. Their method has been to get a country’s corrupt politicians to accept massive loans, which they can never repay, and thus go into debt to the Rothschild banking powers. If a leader refuses to accept the loan, he is oftentimes either ousted or assassinated. And if that fails, invasions can follow, and a Rothschild usury-based bank is established.
The Rothschilds exert powerful influence over the world’s major news agencies. By repetition, the masses are duped into believing horror stories about evil villains. The Rothschilds control the Bank of England, the Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank, the IMF, the World Bank and the Bank of International Settlements. Also they own most of the gold in the world as well as the London Gold Exchange, which sets the price of gold every day. It is said the family owns over half the wealth of the planet—estimated by Credit Suisse to be $231 trillion—and is controlled by Evelyn Rothschild, the current head of the family.
Objective researchers contend that Iran is not being demonized because they are a nuclear threat, just as the Taliban, Iraq’s Saddam Hussein and Libya’s Muammar Qadaffi were not a threat.
What then is the real reason? Is it the trillions to be made in oil profits, or the trillions in war profits? Is it to bankrupt the U.S. economy, or is it to start World War III? Is it to destroy Israel’s enemies, or to destroy the Iranian central bank so that no one is left to defy Rothschild’s money racket?
It might be any one of those reasons or, worse—it might be all of them.

Objective researchers contend that Iran is not being demonized because they are a nuclear threat, just as the Taliban, Iraq’s Saddam Hussein and Libya’s Muammar Qadaffi were not a threat.
What then is the real reason? Is it the trillions to be made in oil profits, or the trillions in war profits? Is it to bankrupt the U.S. economy, or is it to start World War III? Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was involved in smuggling nuclear triggers out of the United States carried out by a network of front companies, a report says.
According to a Wednesday article posted on antiwar.com, the FBI partially declassified and released additional pages from a 1985-2002 investigation into how a network of front companies connected to the Israeli Ministry for Military Affairs illegally smuggled triggers used for nuclear weapons (krytrons) out of the United States.
The FBI investigation reveals that Netanyahu worked at Heli Trading Company,
the Israeli node of the network during the smuggling operations.
The Israeli premier was in contact with Richard Kelly Smyth, who at the time was president of the MILCO International Inc., a front company for the Israel-based Heli Trading Company, then owned by Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan.
In April 2002, Smyth was sentenced to 40 months in prison and fined 20,000 dollars for trafficking krytrons, tiny electronic devices that are used in high-speed photography, strobe lighting and photocopying machines, but can also be used in nuclear triggers.
Smyth was also indicted for selling about 800 krytrons to Heli Trading Company (also known as Milchan Limited).
“Smyth and [Netanyahu] would meet in restaurants in Tel Aviv and in [Netanyahu’s] home and/or business,” the FBI report said.

Hollywood Tycoon Arnon Milchan issued a statement saying, “Hollywood mega-

Israel has reliable information showing that despite Syria's official denials, an attempt was made to assassinate several top regime officials four days ago, senior Israeli officials said on Thursday.
The information shows that Syrian President Bashar Assad's brother-in-law, Assef Shawkat, and several other senior officials were indeed poisoned, just as the Free Syrian Army claims. But prompt medical treatment saved their lives.
Israel views this as an important milestone in the ongoing revolution: It shows the opposition has penetrated Assad's inner circle, casting doubt on the regime's stability.
"The Syrian revolt is no longer in faraway cities; it's reached the leaders of the regime," one senior Israeli official said. "An assassination on a similar scale in the future could accelerate the regime's collapse. The opposition has the tools to reach the heads of Assad's regime, and in this case, it's been proven."
The Israeli officials, who are well-briefed on intelligence from Syria, said the poisoning was carried out by the Free Syrian Army's Al-Sahaba battalion. The targets, aside from Shawkat, were Defense Minister Daoud Rajha; Interior Minister Mohammed al-Shaar; Hassan Turkmani, an aide to the vice president; national security chief Hisham Bakhtiar; and Mohammed Said Bakhtian, national secretary of the Baath Party.
On May 20, the Free Syrian Army announced that an assassination attempt had been carried out the previous evening by Bakhtian's bodyguard, who was recruited into the Syrian opposition. The bodyguard, it said, poisoned the food served to senior regime officials during a meeting of the "crisis management cell," charged with managing the ongoing fighting in Syria. As a result, the announcement added, the officials were rushed to the hospital during the meeting.
In response to this announcement, some of those who attended the meeting either made rare appearances on Syrian television or phoned the studio during a live broadcast to prove they were still alive.
Al-Shaar denied that the attempted assassination ever took place. "I'm calling you right now from my office," he said during a live television broadcast. Turkmeni also phoned the studio.
But other senior officials who attended the meeting have not been seen publicly since that day.
A senior Israeli official said the information obtained indicates that the food at the meeting really was poisoned. "All those who ate the food were rushed to the hospital and saved at the last minute by medical attendants," he said. "The bodyguard who slipped the poison in was smuggled out of Syria."
Another Israeli official said the information published by the Syrian opposition after the incident is deemed credible by Israel. "There was an attempt to poison Shawkat and the other senior officials, but it failed, and all those who were at the meeting are still alive," he said.

A Turkish opposition lawmaker has said the principal reason for the deployment of NATO’s missile system in Turkey is to protect the Israeli regime.
Turkish People’s Republican Party (CHP) representative to the parliament from the Malatya Province, where the NATO missile system is deployed, described the system as an “American scheme” aimed at protecting the Tel Aviv regime and guaranteeing its security in the Middle East region, saying that the plan is not at all linked to Turkish people and the country’s national security.
The opposition parliamentarian slammed the "dual policy" of the Turkish government in the region, saying that on the one hand it claims to defend people’s rights in face of oppressive governments, but, on the other hand, it acts from behind the scenes as an element of global powers in protecting the existence of the Israeli regime.
The Turkish lawmaker also emphasized that all of the country’s political parties, except the ruling Justice and Development Party, are opposed to the deployment of NATO’s missile system in Turkey.
In March, Turkish opposition parties brought extra pressure on the government over its decision to host the missile system in Malatya. Several opposition lawmakers submitted written questions about the system, urging the government to bring the issue before the parliament for approval.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert tells CNN that right-wing extremists from the United States toppled his government with “millions and millions of dollars” in order to thwart his attempt to reach a lasting peace agreement with the Palestinians.
In the interview Olmert gave CNN’s Christiane Amanpour that aired on Friday, Olmert said that his peace plan was supported by a majority of Israelis and that it could have been, and still can be, implemented were it not for “superior powers” in the U.S. which he would not name.
Olmert told Amanpour that he was working toward a peace agreement in 2008, knowing that this would mean handing over East Jerusalem to the Palestinians. “But I had to fight against superior powers, including millions and millions of dollars that were transferred from this country (the U.S.) by figures which were from the extreme right wing, that were aimed to topple me as Prime Minister of Israel. There is no question about it.”
Amanpour asked Olmert if there is still time for a two-state solution “There is time,” Olmert answered, “but time is running out.”
Olmert acknowledged that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas never said yes to his 2008 proposal, but also insists that “he never said no.”
“So why not reintroduce this plan again,” asked Olmert, “and present the challenge to the Palestinians?”
Olmert criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s dealings with the Palestinians, saying, “The fact is that we don’t negotiate with the Palestinians, and the fact is that we have not proposed anything.”
When asked if Netanyahu will seek such a peace, Olmert said, “I certainly pray that he will,” adding “I doubt that he will.”
"Peace is important for Israel,” insisted Olmert. “We want peace. We need peace. We want to separate from the Palestinians. We don’t want to control the life of the Palestinians. We want them to have their own separate state.”
The first part of the former prime minister's CNN interview was released on Monday, in which he said Israel could take part in a possible military strike on Iran, but should not lead it.

The Obama administration is trying to delay the establishment of a panel appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council to investigate the issue of Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
U.S. Middle East envoy David Hale met in Bern last week with UN Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay and asked her not to advance the matter in the near future.
According to the text of the decision to establish the panel, it is meant "to investigate the implications of the Israeli settlements on the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of the Palestinian people throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem." However, the UN Human Rights Commissioner has yet to formulate a clear mandate for the panel and has not appointed a chairman or members.

Foreign Ministry officials noted that the U.S. wants to postpone the establishment of the panel to the latest possible date, hoping this will lead to the unofficial burial of the matter. However, the assessment is that it will not be possible to prevent the establishment of the panel, so the aim is therefore to delay it until at least after the U.S. presidential elections in November.
On March 30, a week after the decision by the UN Human Rights Council, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon traveled secretly to Washington to meet with his U.S. counterpart Bill Burns. Ayalon asked for help in thwarting the establishment of the panel and even suggested that the U.S. publicly threaten to quit the UN Human Rights Council if the panel is established.
The Americans did not respond to that threat, as they view membership in the UN Human Rights Council as a central issue in the foreign policy of the Obama administration. However, the Americans agreed to pressure the UN Human Rights Commissioner on the date of the establishment of the panel and the mandate that it will receive.
Following the UN Human Rights Council's decision to establish the panel to investigate the settlements, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman decided to halt cooperation with the UN Human Rights Commissioner and her staff and to boycott the proceedings of the UN Human Rights Council.
A Foreign Ministry official told Haaretz that one of the people who tried to change Lieberman's mind from taking that step was none other than Israel's ambassador to UN institutions in Geneva, Roni Leshno-Yaar.
Leshno-Yaar came to Israel several weeks ago for policy consultations, met personally with Lieberman, and tried to convince him to go back on the decision. Leshno-Yaar said that the damage of the decision would outweigh the benefits.
Lieberman listened to Leshno-Yaar, but did not accept his view. Leshno-Yaar returned to Geneva and received written instructions to cut all ties with the UN Human Rights Commissioner and to not appear at UN Human Rights Council discussions. Consequently, much of the work of Israel's envoy to UN institutions in Geneva was frozen in place.
Incidentally, Leshno-Yaar will finish his role in Geneva in a few months and return to Israel to serve at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Jerusalem as the deputy director-general of ties between Israel and the UN.

Egyptian presidential candidate Amr Mousa says the Camp David Accords signed by his country and the Israeli regime in 1978 are "dead and buried."
Addressing a mass rally in southern Egypt on Sunday, the former Arab League chief described the agreement as a document which should be put "on the shelves of history," Ha'aretz reported.
The Camp David Accords were signed by then Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat and then Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin on September 17, 1978, following thirteen days of secret negotiations at Camp David in Washington D.C.
The deal comprises of two agreements, a Framework for Peace in the Middle East, and a Framework for the Conclusion of a Peace Treaty between Egypt and Israel. The latter agreement led to the signing of the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty in 1979 which also took place in the United States.
"The Camp David Accords is a historical document whose place is on the shelves of history, as its articles talk about the fact that the aim of the agreement is to establish an independent Palestinian state," said Mousa.
Mousa seems to be speaking about the first part of the Camp David Accords, signed in 1978, which included articles on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
"This accord is dead and buried," the leading Egyptian presidential candidate stressed.
"There is an agreement between Israel and Egypt that we will honor as long as Israel honors it," he added however, apparently referring to the 1979 Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty.
His remarks come against the backdrop of tense ties between Cairo and Tel Aviv since the downfall of former dictator Hosni Mubarak last year.
Egypt recently announced plans to halt natural gas exports to Israel. There have been growing calls in Egypt for a review of relations with the Tel Aviv regime.

Military prosecution says will take no legal steps against those responsible for deaths of Samouni family, killed in their home during Operation Cast Lead.

Israel's military prosecution announced Tuesday that no legal steps will be taken against those responsible for the killing of 21 members of the Samouni family during the 2009 Operation Cast Lead in Gaza.
A letter was received by the human rights group B'Tselem from Major Dorit Tuval, Deputy Military Advocate for Operational Matters. Tuval said that the case has been closed after the investigation has found that the attack on the civilians, "who did not take part in the fighting," and their killing were not done knowingly and directly, or out of haste and negligence "in a manner that would indicate criminal responsibility.
B'Tselem activists condemned the decision and called for an alternative investigatory body to probe such incidents.
On the morning of January 4, Givati commanders ordered the dozens of members of the extended Samouni family to leave the three-story house (the home of Talal Samouni), which they then turned into their outpost. The soldiers told them to gather in the one-story home of Wail Samouni, on the other side of the road and about 30 meters southeast. The Samounis took the fact that the soldiers themselves concentrated the family in one building, and saw that there were infants, children, women, elderly people and unarmed men, as insurance that they would not be harmed.
Despite the intense firing heard all around them that entire evening, the family's fears were mitigated by the proximity of the soldiers who had assembled them into the one home. Several of the Samouni men even left the house on Monday morning (January 5) to collect wood for a fire, hoping to bake pita and heat up tea.
They also called out to a relative who had remained in his home, a few meters east of them, and suggested he join them because their house was safe.
In conversations with Haaretz, the Samouni men explained how they felt safe due to the proximity of the IDF soldiers and due to the fact that the soldiers who gathered them in the house saw that they are all civilians.
According to testimonies given to Haaretz and Breaking the Silence by soldiers who took part in the attack, then-Givati Brigade commander Col. Ilan Malka concluded from UAV images of the house that armed Palestinians were inside.
He then ordered an aerial strike on the house, killing one person on the spot. When the casualties went back inside the house, another missile was shot on the house and 20 more people were killed, including three babies and six children between the ages of 5 to 16. Some 40 people were wounded.
Some of the casualties were trapped in the destroyed house, among the bodies, for three days, until the IDF allowed rescue services to arrive at the house and evacuate the bodies.
Attorney Yael Stein of B'Tselem said in response, "It cannot be that in a well-managed system no person will be found guilty of the army operation that led to the killing of 21 people who were not involved in combat, and resided in a structure on the instructions of the army – even if the attack was not done purposefully," she said.
"The manner in which the army rids itself of responsibility in this case… again illustrates the need for an investigatory body outside of the army."

Israel's military prosecution announced Tuesday that no legal steps will be taken against those responsible for the killing of 21 members of the Samouni family during the 2009 Operation Cast Lead in Gaza.
A letter was received by the human rights group B'Tselem from Major Dorit Tuval, Deputy Military Advocate for Operational Matters. Tuval said that the case has been closed after the investigation has found that the attack on the civilians, "who did not take part in the fighting," and their killing were not done knowingly and directly, or out of haste and negligence "in a manner that would indicate criminal responsibility.

On the morning of January 4, Givati commanders ordered the dozens of members of the extended Samouni family to leave the three-story house (the home of Talal Samouni), which they then turned into their outpost. The soldiers told them to gather in the one-story home of Wail Samouni, on the other side of the road and about 30 meters southeast. The Samounis took the fact that the soldiers themselves concentrated the family in one building, and saw that there were infants, children, women, elderly people and unarmed men, as insurance that they would not be harmed.
Despite the intense firing heard all around them that entire evening, the family's fears were mitigated by the proximity of the soldiers who had assembled them into the one home. Several of the Samouni men even left the house on Monday morning (January 5) to collect wood for a fire, hoping to bake pita and heat up tea.
They also called out to a relative who had remained in his home, a few meters east of them, and suggested he join them because their house was safe.

YouTube video showing a member of the Israeli military hitting a pro-Palestinian activist with a rifle has triggered uproar among both Palestinian supporters and Israeli officials. The officer condemned even by the PM says he was provoked.
The video was posted on Sunday by the International Solidarity Movement which supports Arab rights:
Lt.-Col. Shalom Eisner was filmed hitting 20-year-old Danish activist Andreas Ayas. The protester was slapped in the face with the rifle which made him fall down as if he had been shot.
Other activists who were attacked by Israeli soldiers, sustained wounds on their faces and backs and were taken to a hospital in Jericho.
The Israeli Prime Minister has condemned the beating. “Such behavior does not characterize IDF soldiers and officers and has no place in the Israel Defense Forces and in the State of Israel,” Benjamin Netanyahu said.
The incident is “seen as very grave” by the Israeli Chief of Staff Benny Gantz, and he has dismissed the officer who was the deputy commander of the IDF’s Jordan Valley brigade.
The clash between soldiers and pro-Palestinian activists happened on Saturday when a group of around 250 went on a bike ride in the Jordan Valley.
They called the action “a silent protest” aimed at showing the difficulties Palestinians overcome daily while using the Jordan Highway. They have to get permission from the Israeli military in advance to travel the road.
The protesters didn’t get permission and went on a bike ride in the direction of the highway. They were stopped by the Israeli soldiers who hit them and threw their bikes over a tunnel across the road.
The military say the deputy commander of the IDF’s Jordan Valley brigade, Shalom Eisner arrived after the confrontation started.
Activists insist their protest was peaceful, but Eisner has his version of the incident.
He argued that activists were trying to block a road, and soldiers were dealing with them for two hours trying to persuade them to avoid provocation.
Eisner also said the video was edited and doesn’t show how the Danish activist had hit him with a stick beforehand, and even broke two of his fingers.
The officer claimed that he carried out his job protecting the state highway from “lawbreakers”.
Israeli media note that conflicts between ISM activists and Israeli military occur frequently. It’s reported that from time to time the ISM manage to provoke soldiers and force them to turn violent, they constantly film the conflicts and the most flagrant episodes are used to blame the Israeli military.

New data shows Washington has given more than 115 billion dollars in financial aid to Israel over the years, indicating Tel Aviv’s great dependence on the US.
According to the report published by the Congressional Research Service Israel has received more assistance from the US than 15 European countries did to recover from the devastation caused during World War II.
More than 67 billion dollars of the Washington's aid to Israel has been in military, the report said.
The astonishing report adds that the US has allocated 3.1 billion dollars, around one-fifth of its defense budget, to Israel this year alone.
Americans also allow the Israeli army to use their emergency reserve ammunition stored in Israel. The value of the weapons held in the US emergency supplies is 1.2 billion dollars.
The US gives billions of dollars in American taxpayers' money to the Tel Aviv regime each year in the form of military and economic aid, legally justified as part of US government's foreign aid package.
Washington has never downsized its annual 3 billion dollars grant to the Israeli regime despite going through its worst recession in decades which has prompted the government to impose major cuts on most public service programs for citizens.

German Nobel literature laureate Guenter Grass published a poem Wednesday in which he said that Israel's nuclear program is a threat to world peace.
In his poem, the 85-year-old author claims that Israel’s nuclear reactor – and not Iran’s – presents a threat to world peace. Grass’ poem calls for Germany to cease supplying Israel with submarines, and warns against an Israeli strike on Iran.
The poem, entitled “What must be said,” will be published on Wednesday in the Deutsche Zeitung and La Republica. In the poem, Grass writes that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has a “big mouth,” and that the intentions of the Iranian nuclear program are not proven.
The poem drew sharp criticism in Germany, Israel and among Jewish organizations. The Israeli embassy in Germany said that the poem was in line with the 'tradition of blood libel ahead of Passover."

Grass also claims that “Israel’s nuclear potential has been stealthily growing for years,” without being under any kind of international supervision. Grass believes that Israel is planning to arm submarines recently purchased from Germany with nuclear warheads.
“Germany could be responsible for a crime that can be foreseen," Grass said.
Grass achieved fame with his first novel “The Tin Drum.” Many of his stories have been translated into Hebrew and English. In 2006, Grass admitted for the first time to serving in Hitler's Waffen SS during the Second World War. Today, Grass is an active member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany.

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- The International Criminal Court will not investigate Israel's conduct during its December 2008 offensive on Gaza because Palestine is not a state, the world prosecutor said Tuesday.
In a statement, the ICC prosecutor acknowledged that over 130 countries and some UN bodies recognize Palestine as a state.
But, Palestine still holds observer status in the UN, and so the ICC cannot at this time investigate allegations of war crimes committed on Palestinian territory, the prosecutor said.
President Mahmoud Abbas applied for full UN membership in September at the UN Security Council. The US vowed to use its veto to block the bid and the council has not yet made any recommendation to admit Palestine.
The ICC said it could in the future consider allegations of crimes committed in Palestine if the Security Council determines that Palestine is a state.
Israel 'worked quietly' against bid
Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Tuesday that diplomats had worked against the Palestinian request for an ICC investigation into Operation Cast Lead, Israel's 3-week offensive on the Gaza Strip that left nearly 1,400 Palestinians dead, including 300 children.
Commenting on the ICC's rejection of the bid for a tribunal, Lieberman said: "Not many understand how much work has been put into this issue," the Israeli news site Ynet reported.
"We have kept it out of the media," Lieberman said. "The Foreign Minister worked very professionally, discreetly and quietly."
ICC 'open to accusations of political bias'
Amnesty International said the ICC's decision meant victims of Israel's war on Gaza were likely to be denied justice. The prosecutor's decision opened the ICC to accusations of political bias, it added.
The rights group said ICC judges should decide on the court's jurisdiction. It said the prosecutor had "dodged the question," after considering it for three years.
"For the past three years, the prosecutor has been considering the question of whether the Palestinian Authority is a "state" that comes under the jurisdiction of the ICC and whether the ICC can investigate crimes committed during the 2008-9 conflict in Gaza and southern Israel," said Marek Marczynski, head of Amnesty International’s International Justice campaign.
"Now, despite Amnesty International’s calls and a very clear requirement in the ICC’s statute that the judges should decide on such matters, the Prosecutor has erroneously dodged the question, passing it to other political bodies," he added.
Most of the 1,400 Palestinians killed in Operation Cast Lead were civilians.
According to UN figures, Israel's military destroyed over 3,500 residential homes and made 20,000 people homeless during the 22-day assault.
A UN fact-finding mission tasked with investigating allegations of war crimes found that Israel committed "grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention in respect of willful killings and willfully causing great suffering to protected persons."
