With true Iman (faith) can you rise above adversity

Do not lose heart, or fall into despair; you are bound to rise above adversity if you are true in faith. You may be sure that if a wound has touched you, a similar wound has touched others. [Sura Al-Imran, 3:139-140]

A Few Signs of Faith in Islam

Abdullah ibn Mas`ud related that Prophet Muhammad  (peace be upon him) once recited the verse: "And whoever Allah wishes to guide, He opens his heart to Islam." (Noble Quran, Sura Al-Anam, 6:125) He then explained it by saying:
"When faith enters the heart, it opens up.
He was asked, 'O Messenger of Allah! Is there a sign by which this may be recognized?' And he said:
"Yes, to lose interest in the place of deception, to long for the place of eternity and to
prepare for death before it comes." (Baihaqi)

Anas related Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) said:
"Faith belongs to whoever has 3 things: to love Allah and His messenger more than
anything else; to love and be loved for the sake of Allah; and to hate returning to unbelief just
as much as one would hate to be thrown into a fire." (Bukhari, Muslim)

About Iman (faith) in Islam

About Iman
Some definitions about Iman (faith):

Anas related that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) seldomly addressed us without saying:
"He who is not trustworthy has no faith and he who does not keep his promise has no
          religion." (Baihaqi)

Abu Umamah reported that a man once asked Prophet Muhammad  (peace be upon him), 'What is faith?' He replied:
"When your good deeds make you happy and your bad deeds make you
          sad, you have faith."
And then the man asked him, 'What is sin?' And Prophet Muhammad  (peace be upon him) replied:
"When anything pricks your conscience, avoid it." (Ahmed)

The Importance of Faith

The Prophet Muhammad (Salla Allahu Allaihi Wasalam) said: "Faith wears out in the heart of any one of you just as clothes wear out, so ask Allah to renew the faith in your hearts (Mustadrak al-Haakim & Authenticated by Al-Albani)

أسلي النفس بالآمال .. من حين إلى حين
I keep forestalling my soul with thoughts of hope from time to time

وأنسى ما وراء الموت .. ماذا بعد تكفيني
And forgetting what is to come after death, and after I am warped in the sheets of the dead

كاني قد ضمنت العيش .. ليس الموت يأتيني
As if I have guaranteed living forever, and that death will not overcome me
